Parent Night creates a system of support for students
On the evening of May 3, over 210 students and parents attended Citrus College's annual Parent Night.
Hosted by the college's office of school relations and outreach, Parent Night is a consistently well-attended occasion. With parents often playing a vital role in the well-being of a student, providing financial and emotional support, Parent Night helps to familiarize them with the many programs and services available to students. It also serves to inform parents how best to support and encourage students during their time at Citrus College.
"Parents received a comprehensive understanding of how to help," said Ivon McCraven, school relations and outreach supervisor. "As we introduce parents to the many programs and services offered by the college, they realize that great opportunities are readily available at Citrus College for their soon-to-be high school graduates. It's simply a matter of being proactive and following up. That's where parents can be the most helpful."
Since Parent Night was established, more students have accessed financial aid, extended opportunity programs and services (EOPS), career counseling and help with registration for summer and fall semesters.
"Parent Night underscores the importance that we as a college place on community," said Dr. Martha A. McDonald, vice president of student services. "To get students familiarized with the wonderful opportunities at Citrus College is great, but to get the entire family on board dramatically increases a student's ability to succeed and ultimately complete college."
