Citrus College student wins scholarship
The Honors Transfer Council of California (HTCC) Undergraduate Research Conference is an annual event that celebrates the finest work among honors students throughout the state.
Each year, a committee invites honors students to attend the event based on their submissions in several categories. This year, eight Citrus College students attended and one received the highest recognition.
Francisca Rivera was awarded the HTCC Dr. Juan Lara Scholarship due to her academic success and personal story of overcoming obstacles. Brian Waddington, coordinator of the Citrus College Honors Transfer program, submitted an essay on her behalf that spoke to her extraordinary improvement within the honors program and her extracurricular service to the community.
"I am immensely proud of our students," said Mr. Waddington. "They commit themselves to conducting university-level work for semesters and then reap the benefits by receiving awards or transferring to distinguished colleges and universities. They are role models for their generation."
Since winning this scholarship, Frances has received admission to the University of California, San Diego, and nearly a full scholarship, which includes housing for her family.
