Five Citrus College student representatives from the Citrus College Clarion and Logos Magazine recently participated in the Journalism Association of Community Colleges SoCal Regional Conference, earning several important forms of recognition.
We had five winners from the regional publication contests, awards based on work published by the Clarion and Logos during the 2023-2024 academic year.
Publication contest winners:
- Magazine photo story/essay: Alexa Tapia, first place, for her photo essay on queer fashion styles in the spring 2024 edition of Logos
- Enterprise news story/series: Kenna Jenkins, meritorious award (no placings in the category), for her series on the staff union negotiations with the district
- Magazine illustration: Mizuki Smith, third place, for their illustration accompanying "Out to Lunch," an article on lunch spots near Citrus College
- Magazine design/layout: Logos staff, third place, for the spring 2024 edition
- Magazine photo: Alexa Tapia, honorable mention
We also had one attendee place in the on-the-spot contests:
- Copy editing: Melanie Arias, honorable mention
Congrats to the entire Citrus College Communication program, including journalism instructor Patrick Schmiedt, Logos adviser Michael Saakyan, and all past, present and future students involved with the Clarion and Logos!
